To Skirt or Not To Skirt ...

Happy Monday!
I've been dreaming of a new sofa for our family room.
Right now it is truly existing only in my dreams.

But while unpacking and shoving putting things away ... visions of pretty rooms have been dancing in my head!  And I am fixated on a new sofa.  Yes, you remember my old family room and the sofas that I was horrified by ... well, they didn't make the move.

There are so many other pressing decisions that need to be made but I really want to know in my head ....

To Skirt ....

Or

Not To Skirt ...

I happen to love the classic lines of the London Sofas from Duralee ... and am having a very difficult time with this seemingly simple decision ...

Please weigh in ... To or Not To ... Skirt.

Oh ... and here's what I envision she'll be wearing ...

Yes, this is a pillow ... I am on the hunt for this fabric.
Wide. Wale. Navy. Corduroy.

Making the World More Beautiful.  One Room at a Time.

  1. Family Room = no skirt = sophisticated, yet casual. + the tight back means less to straighten. Oh and Therese's pillow would be an amazing addition! Enjoy your dreaming, sounds like a great way to get through the unpacking.

  2. I say no skirt. And that pillow is incredible. Love it.

  3. I love both but I usually lean more towards skirted sofas! I hope your move went well! We only have 2 more weeks...and a new skirted sofa will be going in our den:)

  4. Both are beautiful but I'd go with no skirt :)

  5. Eek, I kind of love both. I hope someone else is more help;)

  6. I love the skirted one....but it all depends on the feeling you are going for. The skirted one is classic and the non skirted one is more casual.

  7. I am loving skirted sofas at the moment. That fabric should not be too hard to find, its fun.

  8. We've had a skirted sofa in our family room that is on its last leg and we've just ordered an unskirted one. The new one hasn't arrived yet so I can't really say which I prefer yet. I mainly got the unskirted one because it was on sale at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. I've loved our skirted one because in our family room it has to float in the middle of the room and I've always felt it grounded the piece in the space (and hidden dog fur tumblewods). So, it will be interesting. I think skirted = more formal and unskirted = more casual, so it's really how you want that room to feel. Sorry if that was rambling and not much help! ;)

  9. No skirt for me for the family room Kim. Skirt for the formal living room? maybe. My sofa in the living room goes down so low, it looks skirted, maybe that can be an option for you? Good luck!

  10. I have one of each - no help I know! But I'd definitely go for Therese's gorgeous pillow, I have a couple and she does a beautiful job! :)

  11. I love the clean lines of no skirt and I don't feel like that will ever go out of style!

  12. For me, it depends on the other chairs in the room. I like the mix of skirted seating with unskirted ones. Have fun :)

  13. I vote for no skirt. I don't know about your dogs, but Gibbs (and the cat) rub up against the edges of my sofa constantly and soil it a bit. They are forever pushing the skirt aside to hide or fetch a toy. Love the corduroy Kim! best of luck! xo Nancy

  14. Get a sunbrella linen and skirt that baby!

  15. I think the one without the skirt is more sassy!

  16. If its a small room go for the legs...it will make the room appear bigger. Other wise either one...

  17. You are right on trend with the cordurouy! To skirt or not to skirt? I like a mix of both in a room.
