Ice Cream and Windows!

There is a lot of ANGST in my house right now.  The kids are  about to revolt.  Ice Cream has been taken out of the lunch room.  Seriously?

It all started Wednesday, the first day of school.  Sammy came home in a huff.  "I wanted a cheeseburger today and was told that we can't have cheese anymore.  It is fattening!!"

I kind of shook it off ... and said well, they are trying to be a little more healthful.  She retorted with this ... "they have taken away everything ... now they even serve us WHOLE WHEAT pasta?"  Can you even imagine a thing more horrifying for a girl who LIVES on ... I'm sorry, I'm probably a horrible mother ... but WHITE FLOUR pasta.

We moved on ... then Friday came.  WE are not fat mom??? Why are they taking away all the GOOD Food?  Christopher, 5'10" 180 lbs of pretty solid stuff ... plays football and lifts weights.  He is HUNGRY at lunch ... and he could only have ONE hot dog. "MOM! I am starving ... I was only allowed one hot dog today."

Callie ... "We don't get ICE CREAM anymore.  Evidently Michele Obama has declared America FAT and we can't have anymore ice cream!!!!"

Please I am not making a political statement ... just a Mom's view.  My kids aren't fat, they're not unhealthy skinny either.  They are just normal kids ... who like ice cream. And honestly, I'd rather have them eat ice cream at noon in school where they have the rest of the day to burn the calories than want to come home and have it and sit on their butts all night!!

I realize America has a weight problem ... and I applaud the effort to help ... I'm just not certain I need/want it at my door!!!

So ... that is my rant ... here's what else I got done last week ... INstallations.

Meet Alan ... he is my installer.  He Rocks!!

He spends half his life UNDER the window treatments!

Realize this bathroom is looking a little DARK!  However, you get the idea.  My client wanted the light, but you can see that there is a house right outside that window!  She wants light ... not to give her new neighbors a show!

Then a little bedroom Warm Up!

I LOVE window treatments ... The warmth, the color, the life and even the acoustic help that fabric gives.  As much as I try the minimalist, no window treatment look ... I can't do it.  Maybe if I lived at the Beach, I do not.

Lucky for me, I have clients who feel the same way!  Let me know how you are warming up your home for Fall ... or NOT?

  1. Yes, I'm with you Linda. We don't need all the dietary restrictions imposed on our kids. I like window treatments in other people's houses. I can't ever make a decision on what to do. Perhaps you could provide some insights in a post? I'll happy volunteer my family room windows (2 floor to ceiling flanking the fireplace and one French door) as inspiration! :)

  2. I am 100% with you on your "situation" with your children's lunches! Need I say more!!!!!!!!
I am a true believer in window treatments. The lighting fixtures, and lamps are the jewels, but the window treatments provide the definition! They make a room look "dressed"

  3. That bedroom and bathroom are going to look amazing! I'm trying to decide if I should tackle a new room project or fix-up / warm up an existing one. I like the idea of tweaking and adding warmth but it's so nice outside still...in a few weeks!

  4. I just stripped all my window treatments from my office...since, like you, I love a great window treatment...and I am "trying" the cleaner aka "barer" approach...not sure how long it will last! LOL

  5. Wow, I can't believe the lunch program. I agree some of it is a good idea, but I feel the same as you. Maybe just eliminate sodas and vending machine snacks..just prepare better hot meals. You're windows are beautiful! I think they really add warmth and sophistication.
    go girl!
    xo Nancy

  6. Linda called you Linda? Look my kids love peanut butter. That went out of the schools a long time ago. Pack some candy bars in your kids backpacks and let them know that you love them.

  7. Your installations look gorgeous, Kim! On the school food thing. This happened at my daughter's school a few years ago. She's at a private school that will be 100 years old next year. The cafeteria was SO GOOD. It was so good that people would pay to get to eat there if given the opportunity. They were using old recipes that they'd been using for decades. Can you imagine the yummy pies and cakes? Then they decided to update all the recipes to use whole grains and no butters or fats. It's so different now and what the girls used to look forward to and enjoy is now just tolerated. I was fine with the unhealthy food. It was just one meal a day and I was so happy that my daughter ate enough food to get through the day without coming to the car starving after school.

  8. Hey Kim! You are right on with window treatments and the school lunch issue. My kids came home first week of school and said "Michelle Obama is ruining our lunches". At my kids' middle school, they are forced to take a fruit or veggie. The kids leave the line and dump the fruit or veggie right in the trash!! Now we're wasting food.

We used to joke about the Food Police; now it's real! Hello communism and lose of freedom of food choice!
